HC Deb 10 November 1959 vol 613 c35W
100. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for War how the pay and emoluments of the soldiers of the Royal Malta Artillery going to North Africa will compare with those received by British troops sent to serve in the same area.

Mr. H. Fraser

The pay of soldiers of the Royal Malta Artillery is not strictly comparable with the pay of soldiers from the United Kingdom, as the two pay codes are related to the level of civilian wages in each country. There is also a difference in liability for overseas service. Maltese soldiers going to North Africa, however, receive the United Kingdom rate of local overseas allowance and, in addition, a special expatriation allowance.
