asked the Minister of Power how much of the total compensation payments to the former colliery owners is still unredeemed, at the nearest convenient date; and what rate of interest is charged annually on this amount.

£277,289,777 on 31st March, 1959, bearing an average rate of interest of about 3½ per cent.

£261,965,968 (nominal value) 3½ per cent. Treasury Stock issued in respect of coal compensation is not due for redemption until 1977–80.
