HC Deb 09 November 1959 vol 613 c11W
50. Mr. Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that in future appeals from the Court of Criminal Appeal to the House of Lords will not depend upon the fiat of the Attorney-General but may proceed with the leave either of the Court of Criminal Appeal or of the House of Lords.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I announced in the House on 30th July last that the then Government intended to abolish the certificate procedure under Section 1 (6) of the Criminal Appeal Act. 1907. Legislation for this purpose will be introduced in the current Session.
