HC Deb 04 November 1959 vol 612 cc56-7W
98. Dr. Stross

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that many old-age pensioners have to walk a long distance in order to reach the new post office recently provided on the Bentilee Estate, Bucknall, Stoke-on-Tren; and what additional facilities he expects to provide to assist these people.

Miss Pike

The new post office opened on 26th October is in the shopping centre, which is well situated in the centre of the Bentilee Estate. The great majority of the residents are within half a mile of the office. I am sorry, therefore, that I would not feel justified in providing additional facilities. I would remind the hon. Member that pensioners who are unable to collect their pensions can arrange for friends or relations to collect them. I understand that plans for a bus service between the outlying parts of the estate and the shopping centre are well advanced
