HC Deb 03 November 1959 vol 612 cc37-8W
92. Miss Herbison

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the population of the Muirhead, Chryston, area in 1945 and at the present time; and what is the estimated population when the present housing development is completed.

Mr. Maclay

As this is not a recognised administrative area, I regret that figures of population are available only for census years. In 1951 the electoral division, including the villages of Muirhead and Chryston, had a population of 8,819. When the present housing development is concluded, some 1,100 houses to accommodate about 4,500 people will have been built in the area since 1951, but many of these people were no doubt already in the area before that time.
