asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the total numbers of workers in all forms of paid employment in Tanganyika, at the last convenient date, for the African, Asian and European communities.

The total number of African workers reported in all forms of paid employment in Tanganyika in July, 1958 was 431,000. The figures for non-Africans of 14 years and over, based on the last Non-African Population Census held in February, 1957, were as follows:

Asian 12,000
European 9,000
Others 3,000
Total 24,000
