HC Deb 14 May 1959 vol 605 cc182-3W
Captain Kerby

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty why American-type 3-inch guns have been fitted in H.M.S. "Victorious", in view of the United States Government's refusal to purchase the British Limbo antisubmarine mortar, known to be superior to any in the world; and if he is fully satisfied that British-built guns of the same type could not have been fitted in this ship.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

The 3-inch guns in "Victorious" formed part of the equipment which was provided by the United States Government under the Mutual Defence Assistance Programme. At the time no British-designed guns of comparable characteristics were available.
