§ Sir R. Robinsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement about the impending retirement of Sir Robert Arundell from the post of Governor of Barbados; and what steps he has taken in respect of the Governor's appointment of new aldermen to the Bridgetown City Council contrary to the advice of his Ministers.
§ Mr. J. AmeryYes. Sir Robert Arundell's forthcoming retirement marks the normal end of the extended term of his appointment and was indeed made known by himself to the Legislature of Barbados on the 3rd February. It has no connection whatever with the appointment of Aldermen to the Bridgetown City Council a matter in which my right hon. Friend is entirely satisfied that the Governor acted correctly and in accordance with the existing constitutional conventions of Barbados.
