HC Deb 14 May 1959 vol 605 c184W
Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the increasing difficulty of finding suitable employment for disabled workers in the North-Western area and the need for further provision of institutes providing special employment; and what action he will take in this matter.

Mr. Wood

I am aware that the number of registered disabled workers who are unemployed in the North-Western Region has increased during the last year, and my Disablement Resettlement Officers are doing their best to find suitable employment for them. As regards sheltered employment, the main need is not for additional factories but for more work, so that the places already available in existing sheltered workshops can be filled.
