HC Deb 11 May 1959 vol 605 c87W
52. Mr. Spriggs

asked the Minister of Labour if he will now consider introducing a temporary payment towards the travelling expenses of those workers who, having qualified for the lodging allowance, find it necessary to travel home for domestic reasons.

Mr. lain Macleod

Free return travelling facilities are provided in case of hardship for a transferred worker in receipt of lodging allowance who is required to visit his home in a serious domestic emergency. I am not, however, prepared to extend the Transfer Schemes to cover the payment of daily travelling expenses as an alternative to lodging allowances.
