HC Deb 11 May 1959 vol 605 cc94-5W
60. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement on pig marketing.

Mr. John Hare

The Government's policy on pig marketing was given in the White Paper on the Pig Industry issued in November, 1956. As I have made clear the Government's present view based on the Report of the Reorganisation Commission is that a basically free market in pigs and pigmeat is to be preferred to a marketing board for all pigs. But I am of course ready at any time to consider carefully any proposals submitted to me for a marketing scheme under the Agricultural Marketing Act, in the light of the circumstances at the time.
