HC Deb 11 May 1959 vol 605 c101W
71 and 72. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance (1) what would be the cost of raising the statutory limit of income allowed to those in receipt of a non-contributory old-age pension at 70 years of age by 10s., 20s. and 30s., respectively;

(2) if he will consider raising the statutory income limit which governs the granting of non-contributory old-age pensions at the age of 70, in view of the hardship being felt by such people, who have to live on a very small income.

Miss Pitt

It is not possible to estimate the cost of any extension of the scheme to cover persons now excluded by means above the statutory limit. The non-contributory old-age pension is in any case an obsolescent provision and is administered by the National Assistance Board which is able to pay Assistance to those who are in need by National Assistance standards whether or not there is title to this pension.
