HC Deb 11 May 1959 vol 605 cc105-6W
83. Mr. Wade

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether all pass laws in Swaziland have now been repealed.

Mr. Alport

The laws to which I referred in my reply to the hon. Member's Question on 26th March have not yet been repealed, but legislation providing for their repeal has been drafted and has been referred for the agreement of the native authority.

88. Mr. Wade

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations when the laws in Swaziland on the subject of the relationship between master and servant inherited from the Transvaal Republic, including the Swaziland Master and Servants Law 13 of 1880, will be repealed.

Mr. Alport

The laws of Swaziland are at present being revised. This process includes the modernisation of laws governing the relationship between employers and employees. Meanwhile the existing Master and Servants Law contains many desirable provisions for the protection of servants, which will have to be retained pending the introduction of the revised law.
