HC Deb 06 May 1959 vol 605 c48W
73 and 74. Mr. Tilney

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (1) why he has curtailed the number of flights from Liverpool to Palma permitted to private operators, in view of the demand for such services over recent years; why he has permitted British European Airways to increase the number of their flights on this route; and whether he will review his decision;

(2) why he has curtailed the number of flights from Liverpool to Biarritz permitted to private operators, in view of the demand for such services over recent years; why he has permitted British European Airways to increase the number of their flights on this route; and whether he will review his decision.

Mr. Hay

Applications for services of this nature from independent operators are decided in the light of the advice of the Air Transport Advisory Council, and if an operator wishes his application to be reconsidered he should resubmit it through the A.T.A.C. In reaching their recommendations the Council must take account of the interests of other parties, including other independent operators as well as B.E.A. It is therefore not always possible to approve applications in full.
