HC Deb 05 May 1959 vol 605 cc38-9W
Mr. Hannan

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in the forthcoming road safety campaign, account will be taken of the need to implement the report of the Drew Committee on Road Safety and Alcohol.

Mr. Watkinson

Professor Drew's Report was concerned with the results of laboratory experiments; its conclusions do not readily lend themselves for use in road safety propaganda campaigns. During the present campaign on the theme "Be a Better Driver", stress will be laid on the urgent need for drivers to honour the Highway Code, and one of the points prominently brought out in the Code is that alcohol, even in quite small amounts, makes you less safe on the roads.
