HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 c171W
76. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he has now received a report from the Road Research Laboratory in regard to the most beneficial arrangement for Summer Time from the point of view of road safety; and what action it is proposed to take upon it.

Mr. Watkinson

The Road Research Laboratory has done some further work on this subject following the report issued in 1956. The results of the investigation were not conclusive but were in line with the earlier indication that an extension of Summer Time might reduce total casualties, although possibly at the expense of an increase in child casualties. Further research is necessary before final decisions can be reached.
