HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc164-5W
70. Mr. Teeling

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what steps the Indian Government has taken to stop British journalists attempting to enter Tibet and to censor their despatches emanating from that country; and what representations he has made in the matter.

Mr. Alport

I have received no information about attempts by British journalists to enter Tibet through India. As to the second part of the Question, I am not aware that the Indian Government have taken any steps to censor British journalists' despatches sent through India from Tibet. I understand that despatches emanating from India dealing with the situation in Tibet are subject to the provisions of the Indian Telegraph Code. The third part of the hon. Member's Question does not therefore arise.
