§ 75. Mr. Nabarroasked the Paymaster-General whether his attention has been called to the recent widespread increase in the installation of Purchase Tax-free oil-fired central heating systems in British homes and offices; and whether, in view of the need for ensuring that an adequate proportion of the energy required for domestic heating is obtained from indigenous fuel, he will examine as a matter of urgency the extent to which the maintenance of Purchase Tax on a large range of electric and gas heating equipment is discouraging the wider use of such equipment, and issue a report thereon before 7th April.
§ Mr. MaudlingPurchase Tax is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer. As both he and my noble Friend are aware of the relevant considerations in this field no special report is needed.
