HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc156-7W
59. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Government are satisfied that the Caribbean Commission has been of value to the regional development of the area and of the West Indies in particular; and what financial contribution the Government will make to the Commission in future, in order to ensure its continued existence.

Mr. J. Amery

Yes, and as my right hon. Friend explained to the hon. Member for The Hartlepools (Mr. D. Jones) on 29th January, consideration is being given to the setting up of a successor organisation which will be run by the territories themselves. Her Majesty's Government have undertaken to contribute up to £10,000 a year for three years to this organisation, and the British territories taking part will contribute at least an equal sum.
