HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc155-6W
Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the name of the African woman killed by security forces in Nyasaland; in what circum- stances she was shot; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have asked the Governor for the name of the woman concerned. I understand that she was shot during a dawn sweep by security forces when she attempted to escape after twice refusing order to stop. It was not realised at the time that the person trying to escape was a woman.
