80. Miss Herbison

asked the Minister of Labour how many of the workers declared redundant by Smith and McLeans, Gartcosh, are at present unemployed; and what he is doing to provide alternative work for them.

Of those declared redundant since 1st January, 1958, 118 are still registered as unemployed. My local officers are doing all that they can to assist these unemployed workers by submitting them to suitable vacancies notified to my Department.

asked the Minister of Labour how many workers were employed in Smith and McLeans Steel Works, Gartcosh, in October, 1957; and how many are employed there at present.
