HC Deb 25 March 1959 vol 602 c140W
Mr. John Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many of the registered holdings in the Kiambu District are less than one acre; and how many owners of land recently consolidated have to seek employment on other holdings owing to their inability to earn a living on their own.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 12th February, 1959; Vol. 599, c. 1331–2], supplied the following information:

I have no accurate figures to answer the first part of the Question, but a sample survey shows that excluding village plots about 4,300 registered holdings are less than one acre.

No reliable estimate can be given in answer to the second part of the Question because of the limited information available.
