Mr. Partridge

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he can yet announce the membership of the Inland Waterways Redevelopment Committee.

Mr. Watkinson

The terms of reference of the Committee areTo assist as necessary in the promotion of schemes for the treatment of inland waterways which cannot economically be maintained for commercial transport, to consider such schemes when formulated, to make recommendations upon such schemes to Ministers concerned; and to advise Ministers upon any general matter connected with the redevelopment of those waterways.

The following have accepted invitations to serve on the Committee:

  • Mr. G. C. Godber, Ll.D.

  • Mr. John Smith.
  • Mr. Trevor Williams.

Members knowledgeable about Scotland will be added shortly. The Secretary will be Mr. S. G. Griffin, O.B.E., and the address of the Committee will, for the time being, be at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Berkeley Square House, W.1. I am proposing to make provision for the costs of the Committee by a summer supplementary.
