§ Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the forms of assistance available in the event of a firm moving a factory from Glasgow to a receiving area in the overspill operation, naming the assistance available to the company concerned and to the local authority in the reception area, respectively.
§ Mr. J. N. BrowneGlasgow Corporation is normally prepared to assist firms moving from approved redevelopment areas to overspill reception areas by acquiring their premises (at their current market value, including compensation for disturbance and transfer) at an early date and renting them back until the final transfer of the business can be effected.
146WFirms contemplating development in reception areas recognised by the Board of Trade as localities having high and persistent unemployment are eligible for the various types of financial assistance available under the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act, 1958.
Where a receiving local authority is operating an approved town development scheme, any current deficit on loan charges incurred in providing and servicing sites for industry will enter into the calculation of aggregate annual deficit ranking for 75 per cent. grant. In the Highlands and the Buckie-Peterhead area financial assistance may be available from the Development Fund to local authorities or Scottish Industrial Estates for the construction or adaptation of buildings for renting as factories.
