HC Deb 25 March 1959 vol 602 c140W
Mr. Speir

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has considered the amalgamation of the agricultural machinery and land drainage services now operated by his Department; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. John Hare

I have given instructions for the two services to be amalgamated as from 1st April next. This has been made possible by the run down in the agricultural machinery service, which after next harvest will be confined to nine counties in England and Wales, and concerned primarily with the restoration of opencast coal sites or the heavier kinds of land work. Such machinery operations fit in well with land drainage.
