§ 2. Mr. John Hallasked the Minister of Works when the present wire netting fences were erected around the Royal Parks; and when he proposes to replace them with more elegant permanent structures.
§ Mr. MolsonThese fences were mainly erected after the 1939–45 war to replace railings which were removed for use as scrap iron during the war. I realise that the fences are not beautiful, but they perform an essential function in keeping out undesirable elements at night and protecting plants from damage, while not obstructing the view into the Parks by day.
I am afraid that as the cost of providing railings of the pre-war type would be not less than £100,000, I cannot find the necessary funds at present.
