HC Deb 19 March 1959 vol 602 c68W
87. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Labour how the present average level of retail prices compares with the average level of retail prices a year ago; and how the variation during the past 12 months compares with average annual changes during the previous 10 years.

Mr. Iain Macleod

At mid-February the average level of retail prices was two and a half per cent. above a year ago. This compares with an average annual increase of nearly 5 per cent. in the 10 years 1948–1957.
