§ 95. Mr. Holtasked the Minister of Labour, in view of the fact that 75 per cent. of the salary of officers of the Youth Employment Service is provided by his Department, what consultations have taken place between his Department and the local authorities as to the qualifications required for this service; what qualifications are at present demanded; and whether he is satisfied that the salaries being paid are adequate to attract and retain the services of those with suitable qualifications.
§ Mr. WoodLocal education authorities have been guided by the recommendations of the Ince Committee in 1945 and of the Piercy Committee in 1951. There is, however, some variation in practice as to the specific qualifications required. There was a meeting in January between 41W officers of the Central Youth Employment Executive and representatives of the local authority associations concerned in England and Wales. It was agreed that a statement of the qualifications thought desirable for a youth employment officer should be prepared and that, on the basis of this statement, appropriate salary scales should be negotiated through the machinery of the National Joint Council.
