HC Deb 13 March 1959 vol 601 cc146-7W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade how much hard and soft wood was exported from Great Britain in each of the last five years.

Sir D. Eccles

Hardwood and softwood are not separately distinguished in the export returns, nor are exports from Great Britain, but total exports of wood from the United Kingdom are published in the Trade and Navigation Accounts.

Sir A. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade how much hard and soft wood was imported between the two wars and since the last war, into Great Britain.

Sir D. Eccles

Between 1919 and 1939 some 664 million cubic feet of hardwood and roughly 40 million standards of softwood, including sleepers, were imported into the United Kingdom. Comparable figures for the years 1946 to 1958 were approximately 513 million cubic feet and 19 million standards, respectively.
