HC Deb 11 March 1959 vol 601 cc110-1W
53. Sir A. Hurd

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how soon he expects a start will be made on the north-south relief road at Newbury; and how long the construction is likely to take.

Mr. Nugent

If land acquisition proceeds satisfactorily we hope to start building the northern section of the relief road during next year. Construction time should be about twelve months. Completion of the whole scheme will depend on when work can start on the southern section, for which the preparatory work and land acquisition will probably take longer.
