HC Deb 11 March 1959 vol 601 c117W
82. Mr. Padley

asked the Minister of Labour how many men and women were registered as unemployed at Kenfig Hill in May 1955, January 1959 and February 1959; and what percentage of the insured population was unemployed at those dates.

Mr. Iain Macleod

214 men and 48 women at 9th February, 1959, 39 men and 44 women at 12th January 1959 and 10 men and 7 women at 16th May, 1955. It is not possible to compute a separate percentage rate of unemployment for Kenfig Hill, but for the combined Port Talbot and Kenfig Hill area, the total numbers unemployed at these three dates represented 2.5 per cent., 2.0 per cent. and 0.6 per cent. respectively of the estimated number of employees in the district.
