§ Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the President of the Board of Trade to what extent the grants to local authorities now to be revised under Section 5 of the Distribution of Industry Act, 1945, are to be made available for adapting existing buildings, whether for industrial use or for commercial use as hotels or offices, as well as site preparation for industry; and how far these grants are also to be available for improving social amenities such as tourist attractions.
§ Sir D. EcclesThe Board of Trade's powers under this Section are limited to grants towards the cost of work on derelict land to enable this to be brought into use or to improve the amenities of the neighbourhood. They do not cover work of the kind instanced.
