asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the approximate total spent on building and civil engineering work year by year in Great Britain for the last five years.

Details of the value of the output of building and civil engineering work are published as Table 96 in the Monthly Digest of Statistics, which is available in the Library. The totals for the last five years in £ millions at current prices are 1,747, 1,864, 2,077, 2,144 and 2,167.
