Mr. Straussasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the statement of the South Staffordshire coroner, at a recent inquest on a man who killed himself in a car he had bought for £15, about the need for the early implementation of vehicle testing, he will now undertake to bring this scheme into operation well before August bank holiday.
§ Mr. NugentThe inspection of the very large number of garages which have applied for appointment is being energetically pressed forward; many will have to be visited a second time before they can be approved.
We will introduce the vehicle testing scheme as soon as we are satisfied that the necessary preliminary arrangements have been properly completed.
