HC Deb 04 March 1959 vol 601 c45W
61. Mr. Strauss

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the statement of the South Staffordshire coroner, at a recent inquest on a man who killed himself in a car he had bought for £15, about the need for the early implementation of vehicle testing, he will now undertake to bring this scheme into operation well before August bank holiday.

Mr. Nugent

The inspection of the very large number of garages which have applied for appointment is being energetically pressed forward; many will have to be visited a second time before they can be approved.

We will introduce the vehicle testing scheme as soon as we are satisfied that the necessary preliminary arrangements have been properly completed.
