HC Deb 04 March 1959 vol 601 cc44-5W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to what extent arcading is being used to widen roads in urban areas, especially where there are shops; and, in view of the fact that this method was recommended by the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee about 10 years ago as a cheap and convenient method, if he will encourage its use wherever it is suitable.

Mr. Watkinson

There are some examples of arcading in street-widening schemes in London and elsewhere, and I am sure that all highway improvement authorities consider the possibilities of arcading when planning street improvements. I am always ready to look at any proposals they put to me.
