asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the anxieties caused among mineworkers in the Durham coalfield arising from the imminence of further redundancies; and what measures he has in contemplation to deal with further unemployment there.

I am aware that, although all the miners affected by recent closures of pits in Durham have been transferred to neighbouring collieries, further reorganisation is under discussion and that in the meantime no inexperienced adults are being accepted for coalmining employment.
