HC Deb 03 March 1959 vol 601 c36W
Mrs. Emmet

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will send a circular to all county councils and other local authorities concerned, drawing their attention to Section 7 of the Agriculture Act, 1958, with a view to weed infestation of road verges being kept to a minimum.

Mr. John Hare

Section 7 of the Agriculture Act, 1958, relates only to certain scheduled weeds, namely: spear thistle, creeping or field thistle, curled dock, broad leaved dock and ragwort. No evidence of the need to draw the attention of highway authorities to their responsibilities in regard to infestation on road verges has been submitted to me. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind I will investigate it.
