HC Deb 03 March 1959 vol 601 c31W
70. Mr. Blackburn

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what loss of revenue there would be if Purchase Tax on motor cars were abolished and motor cars ceased to rank as a business expense.

Mr. Amory

The yield of the Purchase Tax on motor cars in 1957–58 was about £110 million. The estimated cost of both initial and annual allowances on cars in that year is about £35 million.
