HC Deb 02 March 1959 vol 601 c5W
47. Mr. Slater

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the success of the European conferences of local authorities for 1957 and 1958, respectively, if he will give his support to the resolution of the Consultative Assembly for the acceptance of the principle of holding the European Conference of Local Authorities every year, and provide the necessary financial contribution to enable the conference to hold its third session in the course of 1959.

Mr. Profumo

A decision on the principle of holding annual conferences is to be taken at the next meeting of the Ministers' Deputies.

The Committee of Ministers has already agreed to the holding of a third conference early in 1960. It was not possible to fix a date satisfactory to all member countries in 1959.

Funds for preparatory work necessary during this financial year have been voted. The total amount to be voted for the conference will he decided at the next meeting of the Deputies.
