HC Deb 02 March 1959 vol 601 c22W
Mr. Crossman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of civil servants who, during the last five years, have resigned or retired, respectively, from the Board of Inland Revenue and the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance.

Mr. Simon

It is not possible to give completely precise figures without a disproportionate expenditure of staff time. Approximate figures for the years 1954–58 inclusive are:

Resigned Retired Total
Inland Revenue 14,250 6,550 20,800
Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance 7,500 3,350 10,850

NOTES:

(a) These figures cover both established and temporary staff, other than cleaning staff.

(b) The totals include approximately 4,700 Inland Revenue staff and 850 M.P.N.I. staff reemployed either in a disestablished capacity after retirement or in a temporary capacity after resignation on marriage, without a break in service.
