62. M. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what official functions the Somaliland Government are arranging for members of the Legislative Council who are to visit Mogadishu and discuss common problems with the members of the Somalia Assembly.
§ M. Lennox-BoydThe Protectorate Legislative Council resolved in February that the Protectorate Government should try to arrange with the Government of Somalia for an exchange of visits between elected members of the two Legislative Councils. This proposal was conveyed to the Government of Somalia with a suggestion that about four members of the Somalia Assembly should visit the Protectorate in July. The reply of the Somalia Government is awaited. The suggested exchanges would be informal and would imply no commitments between the Governments concerned, and they will be entirely distinct from the negotiations about closer association between the Protectorate and Somalia which may take place after the latter territory becomes independent in December next year.
