Mr. Lewisasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the concern of workers employed under the National Dock Labour Scheme at the short-fall of 12s. per week on the original 85 per cent. fall-back minimum wage; to what extent he approved this departure from the scheme authorised by him; and whether he will take the necessary action to restore this scheme to its original basis.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodThe amount of the guaranteed minimum wage is not regulated by the Dock Workers (Regulation of Employment) Scheme, 1947. It is a matter for settlement by the National Joint Council for the Port Transport Industry, in which I cannot intervene.
