§ Mr. Masonasked the President of the Board of Trade (1) what progress is being made in experiments to produce a regenerative mechanical transmission 170W system; and to what extent he foresees its successful application to public service vehicles and ultimately all automobiles;
(2) what progress is being made in the development of the Gabor cathode ray tube for colour television; and whether he estimates that it will be ready to be applied to television units at the same time as coloured television is generally introduced in this country.
§ Sir D. EcclesThese two inventions are being developed by the National Research Development Corporation under the Development of Inventions Act, 1948. The Corporation, for whose day to day work I am not responsible, stated in its last Annual Report that work on both projects was proceeding. If the developments are successful their application will be a matter for the industries concerned.
