HC Deb 17 June 1959 vol 607 cc41-2W
Mr. J. Howard

asked the Minister of Labour what are the average weekly earnings of the various categories of employment occupied by workers involved in the dispute in the printing industry.

Mr. Wood

Most of the workers concerned belong to the industry "Other Printing and Publishing, Bookbinding, Engraving etc.". Nearly all the remainder form part of "Printing and Publishing of Newspapers and Periodicals" with a comparative few in "Manufactures of Paper and Board not elsewhere specified".

The latest available figures of average earnings for these three industries are set out below:

1 aircraft carrier, 2 cruisers, 2 guided missile destroyers and 14 frigates.

It is not our practice to disclose information about the future Naval building programme, but I can assure the House that other ships than these are on order.
