asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (1) how many people in the Manchester area are waiting for their driving tests; and what is the average waiting time;

(2) how many additional driving test examining officers have been recruited in the Manchester area since the end of April, 1959.

In the Manchester area about 6,300 people are waiting for driving tests. The average waiting period is ten weeks. Since the end of last April three additional driving examiners have been recruited; one of them is already in post.
