HC Deb 04 June 1959 vol 606 c33W
6. Mr. Lewis

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement on his recent negotiations in Moscow relative to an Anglo-Soviet trade agreement; to what extent these negotiations were hampered by prior restrictions being placed on discussions concerning the strategic lists; and to what extent the question of long-term financial credits by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics caused difficulty in reaching an agreement.

12. Mr. P. Williams

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement on his recent visit to Moscow.

Sir D. Eccles

I would refer the hon. Members to the Answer I gave on Tuesday to the hon. Member for South Ayrshire (Mr. Emrys Hughes) and the hon. Member for Salford. East (Mr. Frank Allaun). The outcome of our negotiations was not affected by the position we had made known in advance on the strategic lists and long-term credit.
