§ 57. Mr. H. Hyndasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will issue fresh fruit and meat to prisons on the basis of quantity of weight rather than on a monetary basis, in view of price fluctuations.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerNo. When the prisoners' meat ration was determined in the way suggested by the hon. Member the results were not as satisfactory as they are now. Fresh fruit has been issued to prisoners only comparatively recently, but experience so far suggests that the present system of rationing by cost is satisfactory.
