§ 90. Mr. Rankinasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why no payments were made by the Government of Greece in the year ended March, 1959, in respect of the annuity guaranteed by the British Government in 1898; and what are the total repayments to the nearest convenient date, and the amount still outstanding.
§ Mr. ErrollThe hon. Member is no doubt referring to the Greek Guaranteed 2½ per cent. Gold Loan of 1898. The amount paid out by Her Majesty's Government under their guarantee of this Loan was about £2,350,000, and the total repayments received have been slightly less than £350,000. Nothing has been received from the Greek Government since 1940, and the amount outstanding is just over £2 million.
