§ 63. Mr. Viantasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what extent the practice of cutting the vocal cords of dogs, or of silencing them by other means, is carried out in Great Britain in respect of animals used for experimentation under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876.

Mr. Viantasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many experiments were performed on living animals at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, during the latest year for which figures are available; and what reports he has received under Section 9 of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876, as to the results of such experiments.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerApproximately 20,000 experiments under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876, were performed at Harwell in 1958. It is not the practice to require reports under Section 9 of the Act.
