HC Deb 30 July 1959 vol 610 c112W
Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what evidence was produced in the cases brought against Africans charged with membership of an illegal organisation in Nyasaland; and, in particular, what were the relevant dates for such membership.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 28th April, 1959; Vol. 604, c. 1086], supplied the following information:

The evidence in the various cases falls into one or more of four categories:

(1) enrolment of members;

(2) possession of membership cards;

(3) possession of other Congress documents;

(4) active support of the organisation.

7th March is the earliest date of any offence subsequently made the subject of a prosecution.
